A prayer

Read so often in school, in morning assemblies,  since forgotten for many years.. something reminded me of it today, I'm not sure what...

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;

Where knowledge is free;

Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls;

Where words come out from the depth of truth;

Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;

Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit;

Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action --

Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

- Rabindra Nath Tagore

None of the seven wishes of the great poet have been granted, even after more than six decades of our freedom.
What a pity!

Actually if you try to apply this to a regular software coolie type of job...none of the "where" phrases hold good! What a pointless frigging life...[sigh]

@Niranjan - hmmm yes there's the macro picture, at the country level.. but somehow I tend to look at this more as a prayer at two levels - a very personal prayer, and at the same time a prayer for all humanity, beyond countries..

And its a pity that at both those levels too, things don't seem to be going well.

@Guru - two pieces of advice for us software coolies -
one - they also serve who only stand and wait,
two - there is a optimised and best way to do everything, even if its to boil an egg!

of course there are other advices, like, break free, grow, aspire for more, open your own company and innovate, but I tend to stick with the first two!
